Here is a post from Frank Proctor – one of Dancesport Kingdom’s dance teachers.

Breakfast, and to top off my porridge I reach in to the fridge for some stewed rhubarb. This is the message that greets me from the top of the recycled container. What a nice way to start the day. A nice bowl of porridge, topped with rhubarb and yoghurt. And a beautiful message to remind me of friends.
Let me start back a few weeks. Maybe a few years… Two years ago, my wife Debbie had a heart attack. It was serious. As serious as you can get, If Deb had not pick up the phone and called for help I have no doubt we would have lost her. Thanks to some great friends and terrific staff at Box Hill Hospital Deb has made a great recovery. A lot of credit to you Deb for all of the hard work you put in to get back your fitness and to dance again.
Now back to a few weeks ago when our dentist discovered an abscess under one of Debs teeth and told her the bad news that it had to come out. Because Deb is still on medication for her heart, the dentist referred Deb to a specialist for the extraction. As well as that, another tooth that was scheduled to be removed from two years ago also had to go. Well I don’t know about you, but I am not keen on the Dentist and Debbie goes along with me. She was petrified. Fortunately we have great friends. They gave us great support leading up to the procedure and assured Deb that she would be ok.
A few days before the procedure an array of delicious soups arrived at our door. Prepared and delivered by friends. To those responsible, and you know who you are, I want to say a big thank you! Not only did you give moral support, you gave such practical support as well, and it gave us a really big lift. It was such a help over that coming week. We are blessed to have such friends.
One might ask what sort of community is it that we belong to. To have such friends. It may surprise you that it is a dance community. These are the people that we learnt to dance with. People that encouraged us in our medal dances, and mixed with in social dancing. People that we learnt from and people that we taught.
This is the community that was fostered by Monica Fincham at Dancesport Kingdom in Lilydale. I cannot say whether all dance studios share the same community spirit as ours. But I know it exists at Dancesport Kingdom, and I am grateful. Thank you Monica. We came to try out dancing. What we got was a whole lot more. We gained fitness, fun, friends and a loving, caring community.
So in a world that seems so full of hate, (when you open the newspaper or turn on the news), it is such a delight to find that small message of love every morning at breakfast.
