About
Dance Kingdom
DK has been a fixture in Lilydale since 2007
boasting a rich legacy of imparting dance skills in Ballroom, Latin, and New Vogue styles. Catering to everyone from novices taking their first steps on the dance floor
to championship-caliber dancers, from couples preparing for their wedding dance to medal-winning performers, DK (formerly known as Dancesport Kingdom) has
played a pivotal role in Melbourne’s vibrant dance community.
In January 2023, DK welcomed new proprietors, Gary and Stonnie Jefferies, who are committed to preserving the cherished DK traditions while infusing their unique style and creativity into the dance industry. Gary and Stonnie’s journey into the world of dance began as a shared pursuit, quickly blossoming into a profound passion. Countless hours at DK were dedicated to refining their craft, achieving medal certifications, venturing into competitive dancing, and remarkably, within a mere three years of their very first dance lesson, clinching the title of National Champions in their category.
Their passion for competitive dance expanded beyond the Australian borders
with Gary and Stonnie gracing international stages, including the illustrious Blackpool Dance Festival in the UK and the Singapore Open Championships, in addition
to numerous competitions all around Australia.
With a background in stage entertainment, it wasn’t long before Gary merged his love for performing with his passion for dance.
In 2011, Gary and Stonnie dazzled audiences with their first dance floorshow,
aptly named “Beauty & the Geek.” This performance marked the inception of a series of captivating dance productions
that remain one of their best-kept “hidden talents,” now generously shared with the DK dance community.
Teaching dance was a serendipitous turn of events for Gary and Stonnie.
Initially prompted by Gary’s sister’s desire to learn a few dance steps, their contagious enthusiasm spread like wildfire, drawing in more beginners. They swiftly discerned the needs of novice dancers and devised effective techniques
to have them dancing with confidence in record time. Gary’s famous adage to beginners, “look at the clock, you’ve learned your first basic dance in just 10 minutes,” still elicits laughter
Gary and Stonnie are proud to be owners of DK, eagerly anticipating the opportunity to guide numerous individuals in discovering all the benefits dance can bring into their lives.
