The Award Dance

Right in the middle of Covid-19 Lockdown 2.0, a couple of die hard dancers were actually thrilled to perform their Awards  remotely over the weekend, and continue with their Ballroom education online for the time being.

Here,   DK Ballroom Instructor Frank Proctor describes the feeling of  Award Day when we can get into the studio, and the thrill of the performance.

Music stops,  applause dies down,
a candidate exits the floor.

A short time for notes, and a name is called
and realization comes, it’s you!

With your partner you walk, take your place.
The floor is yours.

Encouraging shouts and applause fill the room,
but it is distant, not in your world.

The music starts, muscles quiver,
heart pumps, adrenaline flows.
A smile from your partner gives you confidence.

Five, six, seven, eight, its time to dance!

Stretch, breathe, focus, dance!
Live the moment, dance!
Stretch, smile and dance!

Too quickly it is over.

You acknowledge the examiner,  exit the floor,
thank your instructor.

Applause fills your ears,  well wishes greet.

You feel uplifted, relieved, happy.

You did it!
